So I have a finnex marine light. I'm making some changes in my tank. Right now it's in a black out.

It's the 24/7 light. And I want to shorten this. Since it's an already programed light, can I get a timer thing? As it sits now on the 24/7 setting it starts ramping up around 5-6 am. And by noon it's at full capacity . Around 6pm it starts to ramp down. And goes off at midnight. So the tank only has a 5 hour window of darkness. I work 40-50 hours a week so Im not able to manually turn on and off every day at the same times. What is an appropriate time span for a saltwater tank? Right now I just have a few zoanthids .

That’s actually fine , I’ll assume it goes low and slow up and down with higher peak time. )my lights on time is actually embarrassing) same problem. Long work days.

From what I read of the reviews , it can be changed and modified.
Is this not the case?

Unfortunately it can't really be changed on the 24/7 cycle. I have the planted+ 24/7 on my planted tank and that can be customized however I want it. Unfortunately it's not bright enough for a reef tank.
Would the one I have tho be okay just on a regular light setting with a timer?

Assuming the programming , it’s going to start the clock every time it goes on unless there’s a manual mode of all on all off.

There's a regular non 24/7 light as well as memory slots so I guess I'll use those

Need to be careful. There are 3 versions of this light presently (w a 4th in the works).
Each have slightly different programming w/ the 3rd version being the most flexible..

first version to cut the night out you could set on a timer to go off at x but turn on at the "programmed" 6 o'clock.
second version would default to the time you shut it off and continue from there..really screwy..but in other words can't really "trick" the 24/7 mode..

Both (all 3) I believe can be set to a manual setting and use a timer..

It's sort of complicated but not.. ;)

SO to the o/p...
You can shorten it w/ a timer (IF the correct version) but have it turn on at the "normal" 24/7 time (believe 6AM)

Only going on memory regarding discussions on this though..
some discussion:
If not in 24/7 mode, it is exactly like any other light out there. If in 24/7 mode, it will always start at "6 AM" in the cycle when power is turned back on. So, turn off at 10 PM, turn on at 6 AM, and you may be happy

I just received my SE and can confirm it does NOT work with a timer. I unplugged it from the wall. Plugged back in and it resumes where it left off.

So which version do you have????

I have what currently is the newest planted+ 247 on one of planted tanks . And the marine+ 247 on my saltwater tank. The planted version can be customized. The marine one cannot .so what I'm asking is could I just not use the 247 setting, and put it on a regular setting and use a timer? With the 24/7 thing the light is just on too long

AFAICT yes... Sorry played w/ the fw ones a bit and according to finnex it's a marine SE.. which leads me to believe the "glitch" of the fw SE one is also present..

Yea just adjust it to your liking in manual and use a timer..Should be "sticky"..

The newest fw cc model is awesome. I just wish they made it in the marine version lol
