Hi Friends,

So yesterday my fire red shrimp went missing. I couldn't find him. I believe his body decomposed. So i checked ammonia and all and then just now before a while i bought a new fire red shrimp and i slowly let him swim near my live rock. for like 20-30 minutes he was ok. then i checked my tank & i saw his still body - not moving anymore. He died.. It was really shocking. Because last time i added 1 cleaner shrimp and another fire red shrimp and they all survived.

I didn't notice anything unusual. my blue damselfish , clown all seemed very friendly. I thought it's a new environment so he will go and hide, but unfortunately within an hour he died :(

I thought something wrong with my water. I immediately checked my KH, ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, nitrite levels. all normal. nitrate and phosphate level was bit high but just a bit.

I don't think it's coz of new environment, because i never had this issue with other shrimps.. any idea/thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

How long did you acclimate the little fella? They are very susceptible to parameter shock.

at least for like 15-20 minutes. I didnt drop him suddenly :/
Did you do a drip acclimation?

Also, do you mind posting your parameter values? Normal means different things for different people :)

No not drip method. normally i dont follow that method when it comes to my shrimp/snails.

My water param :

KH - 9
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 0.4
Phosphate - 0.8-1
Nitrite - 0
CA - 430
MG - 1300

Shrimp and other inverts especially need to be drip acclimated, salinity shock is how I lost my first cleaner shrimp. My LFS drip acclimates them for at least an hour but my fire shrimp did well with a few mL of my tank water squirted into her bag until the salinity matched over ~30-45 minutes.

its a good lesson for me then :( thanks for sharing. will be extra careful next time..

Also, it's worth knowing that if you bring home any starfish, sea urchins or sea cucumbers, they should be acclimated even more slowly and carefully (up to 3 hours.)
