Fire Shrimp - Cause of Death?

Hi everyone, I am being traumatized by watching my fire shrimp die. Can anyone please help me figure out how this happened?

Tank is three months old but the parameters are great. I have had this shrimp for about six weeks and he’s molted twice and been very healthy.

So I fed him thawed mysis shrimp through the dropper and he was doing fine. Shoving it into his little mouth. I was also feeding mysis to my Duncan corals. So my shrimp takes a big strand of mucous out of a Duncan with pieces of shrimp on it and begins to devour it. A couple minutes later he slows down and then he drops on his back and pretty much dies. Could the Duncan’s mucous really have caused this? Should I throw out the newly purchased mysis shrimp? I’m really confused. I thought that little guy would be OK picking food out of corals?!

Seems like he should have been fine but if your parameters are good, then that make have done it. Do you have fish in the tank? O2 levels okay? Also (and this may seem dumb) is he def dead?
Sorry for your loss, that's a really odd thing to happen IMO.

Thank you I only have a small pair of snowflake clowns and they’ve all gotten along great. It’s definitely related to him feeding. It was very strange. Is it at all possible that he choked on food or overate? All within five minutes, he ate a bunch of shrimp, pulled the mucous out of the coral, and then basically convulsed into near death. He is not quite dead but I will be shocked if he makes it through the night...

Give him time and check your parameters, you never know. Very odd. They dont stuff themselves to bursting, no.

Well, he’s dead. I’m almost positive it was caused by eating the mucus from the Duncan because he convulsed and basically slowly died immediately after that. But there is nothing on the Internet to suggest that this is common so I’m super confused and bummed at what I witnessed. Thanks for the input.
