Fire worm or bristle worm?

Shots in water helps, but based on that pic I’d say fireworm.
There are a lot of reasons a great by can die, so I wouldn’t be 100% convinced it’s the worm doing it (though possible).

Not trying to hijack, but I didn't want to create another thread on the same topic. I keep losing YWG and couldn't figure out why. A couple of months ago I found this guy and removed him thinking it was a bristle worm. Added another YWG and he too disappeared and few days later i saw another one of these fockers come from under a rock. Fireworm?

Can you get a picture of the top of the head? From that picture I’d guess fireworm as well.

Unfortunately, the pic was from a couple of months ago, so it's long gone. I assumed it was just a big bristle worm until I saw this thread. The other one(s) still in there. Going to try and trap it this weekend.

I would say... If in doubt take it out. Both can be bad if you touch them however bristleworms are considered to be generally OK (although I don't let them in my tank). You definitely don't want a fireworm. If you're in doubt take it out.

Bristleworm. Although Not welcomed in any of my tanks, they are regarded as part of cleaning crew eating uneaten food and detritus
How do you eradicate bristle/fire worms.

I've been patiently waiting for Algae Barn to offer come clean Chaeto for about a year now. I finally broke down and bought a pile of it from my LFS, as I've got a 40 gallon Breeder (bare bottom), with a 10 gallon sump with a grow light on it. I figured I'd just put the chaeto and a small clean up crew in 76 day QT, before I start with coral frags.

After one day, we have a bristle worm in the breeder. Figured it had to come from the Cheato. I'd prefer to eliminate any undesirable critters that may be in the chaeto, before putting it in my sterile DT.

A trap does wonders. This shown below is utilizing a soda bottle baited with pieces of krill and shrimp (easy to make). The dummies know how to get in but not how to get back in LOL

I caught these 2 last night. Unfortunately the large one broke in half so there is still half of one crawling lol.

I think this is a fire, not sure. Either way don't touch it.

The one on the rock partly got away. There was the other whole one in the 2nd pic.

Late night worm hunting is fun.
