I have 3 firefish in my 65g tank. One has become a bully towards the others. I've tried trapping him but no luck. Would adding 2 others help? I think the issue is 2 have paired off & the 3rd is the proverbial 3rd wheel.

I think they do better as a single fish or a bonded pair even though you may see a small shoal not displaying aggression at your LFS. I had same experience as you and eventually ended up with one dominant male and wished I could have gotten a pair out of the three but it did not happen. Pairing is pretty much trial and error on your part, and you'll have to be prepared to move certain fish to another tank if they become targets for bullying even if you have an appropriate rockscape with lots of hiding places for them. For some fish adding more of same species spreads out aggression as you know; not sure how well this works with firefish and read different claims.

Good luck; I really like the look of 8-10 hovering mid water.

Firefish are intolerant of each other unless they are a bonded pr. If you added more you may end up with another pt, but these prs will fight and you will still end up with just a single pr.

sort of sad. I had done my research after getting my firefish so I am stuck with one in each tank. I would try to get a fish trap and take the bully out.
