Hey everyone I was wondering Which color fire fish do you guys like the most of the two. Also which color pairs up the best.

Thanks

I prefer the purple to the red.
However helfreichi's are my favourite. They're sooo much more expensive though :(
I can't help with pairing them up. I've heard the red ones are easier, but I really have no idea.

I agree

Pairing up.is.about the same between the species, but is difficult to do for certain as they are not sexually dimorphic, but to challenge matters they wont tolerate others of the same sex.

I went to the my LFS yesterday and actually came home with two zebra barred dartfish! The pair is in quarantine and is doing well. They even were eating last night! If anyone has these fish could you give me some tips about them and what you do and don't like about them.

Thanks Flame Hawkfish

Zebra dartfish are great. They are peaceful, outgoing and interesting. They are jumpers so a tight fitting lid is a must. They are not picky eaters. This is a very underrated fish IMO.

Helfrichi are my favorite by far

Careful with any of the dartfish/firefish. I was lucky yesterday and my dog found one of my Zebras on the ground. I had opened the hood to feed them.

Believe it or not I have had 2 firefish jump through 1/4" mesh covering my tank

They're cool. They kinda hang out around each other and just float around the water column. I don't have a super aggressive tank and everyone seems to get along. One of them (the one that jumped which I found alive) is a bit shier. They share a bolt hole with a Firefish and a Blue Gudgeon.

I prefer Firefish but it's much more difficult to keep groups of them.

Sounds like a nice blend of fish...so you have:
2 Zebra Barred Dartfish
1 Firefish
1 Blue Gudgeon

What other fish fo you have?
Which of the dartfish stays out the most and which one the least?

I've got a lined Dartfish which I love but those are rare and can be quite shy.
My Firefish is a purple one.
I have three assessors (Captive bred, 1 Yellow and 2 Blues).
X3 chalk bass,
Some Chromis
X2 Blotched Anthias
Starry Blenny
Kamohara Blenny
Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse
Royal Gramma
and a Yellow Eyed Kole.

All of them are pretty mellow.
My Purple Firefish is always out as is one of my Zebras (the other one hides a lot with the Gudgeon).

The only bickering in my tank is at night time between the Chromis... tank size is ~ 120ish gallons.

Oops... not sure how to edit posts. As always, fish are all different. If you're looking for a bold Firefish , perhaps see how the Firefish in the store react to people walking by, if they eat, if they're always hiding.. that type of behavior. I may have just been lucky.

I had an awesome Lined Dartfish (I had two) that was out all the time. It managed to find a 1.5 cm crack in my glass lid and ended up as fish jerky. A total bummer. I'm not sure what it was that spooked it. Maybe something at night.
