Firefish Dead After First Day In Tann

I introduced a firefish to my tank yesterday. I currently have a tailspot blenny. Today, I found my firefish dead. Her top fin was ripped off. At first I thought it was my blenny but now I'm not so sure. Could it have been my circulation pump? She died right under it, next to the barnacle. Thoughts?

I highly doubt the Powerhead killed it. I would blame ur blenny especially if the top fun was ripped off

So how do introduce fish if he's just gonna kill them?

Ecsenius blennies can be aggressive to new tank mates, especially other gobies & dartfish

Acclimation box after qt. He’ll get tired of staring at the new fish after a while.

Any aggression when you added him? Sometimes it’s clear when a fish wants blood did he chase him a bit?

No aggression at all. The firefish was just chilling by the heater. The blenny was just chilling in his rock on the other side of the tank.

Use an acclimation box and then observation after the new fish is added. Another action that has been helpful for me is to rearrange the tank (I realize that this is not always possible), but it creates a distraction for the current fish. Also, provide places for the new fish to hide if possible.

Thank you. The poor thing must have been terrified. Ugh. I wish I had been there to intervene. She's crossed over the rainbow bridge now. I did a little burial for her.

I just purchased an acclimation box. Unfortunately, I don't think moving the rocks around would work in my tank. Thanks for all your tips.

I try to use the emotion from the loss of a fish to propel me to learn more, read more, and be more careful from taking actions that could lead to future losses. I get that losses happen, but I really don't want to ever get used to it.

Even if you can't move the rocks (which is quite normal in well-scaped reefs), you may be able to add a few temporary items just to break up the normalcy of the tank from the perspective of the existing fish.
