I've had two firefish in my 75 gallon reef for about 10 months. They have been a very good pair and always hang out together, sleep together, etc. I haven't introduced any new fish in the aquarium for probably 8 months or so. I came home the other day and noticed one of them had their dorsal fin pretty much all gone. The next day the other's was shorter but not as far gone. The only semi-aggressive fish I have is a Wyoming White clown but she doesn't move far from her RBTA. Any ideas what could have happened? Will it grow back?

All tank mates: Tomini Tang, pair of Wyoming Whites, pair of firefish, engineer gobi, various snails, crabs and two scarlet cleaner shrimp.

Thanks!

Out of the eight years that I have been in the hobby I have always had at least a pair of Firefish and usually a purple one or two. Occasionally that would happen to one or more of them. I always blamed it on my Coral Banded Shrimp or one of my hermit crabs. If it is of any comfort, mine always grew back fairly quickly.

Thank you. I'll hopefully post a pic in a month or two with two firefish and nice long dorsal fins.

Looks like they grow back. All is normal again.
