Hi all.
I just noticed my purple firefish doesn't dart around and just hovers at the front right area of the tank.
I was watching hm closely and noticed his tail flowing with the current versus being used to propel him/her.
His rear half is bent and seems paralyzed.
Anything i could do for it or just leave it be?
Does eat when I feed.
Think it's from another fish? I have a Tomini tang, pair of clowns, lawnmower blenny, yellow corris wrasse, Coral beauty and orange spot goby.
I have not notice anyone paying any attention to it. Most of the aggression which has stopped was the tang chasing coral beauty.
Now the most that happens is the tang and wrasse standing their ground with the two clowns.

I purchased a puffer fish with this problem without realizing it. I was not able to save the fish, though it lived for several months. Some research I came up with at the time suggested that by the time a bent spine symptom is noticed, it's probably too late to save the fish. Some possibilities...

1) Ichthyophonus disease, whirling disease
2) fish tuberculosis

3) injury

Good luck! Other's here may have more suggestions for what it might be.

Thank you for your reply.
Feel bad for the little guy.
I'll make sure he gets fed and keep him as happy as I can.

Beautiful fish. Sorry but they are very susceptible to injury. Some call them "dartfish" for their behavior where they "dart around" the tank and can injure themselves. Had one that survived for many months despite its injury. And it seemed to be free of evidence of pain as we would know it. Best of luck. They are one of my favorite species.

What he said. Sorry, this is unfortunately pretty common as @Big G has said. There is not much you can do, the prognosis is not generally very good :(
