Disease after disease after disease. Man.... luck is not on my side. So today I saw my firefish, it had ich. Idk what happened, no idea. I have copper on hand but I dont have the QT tank anymore cuz the old one is now a sump. What should I do? Can I FW dip with copper dosed in the FW?

Petco is running their $1/gal sale. Are you near one? You can get a 10 gal tank for $10.

FW works with velvet to give some temporary relief, but I'm not familiar with its effect on ich. The copper needs to be in place for an extended period of time. It is only effective on the swimming stage of the ich lifecycle which is why it needs to be in the tank for 30 days at therapeutic levels. If your fish has ich in your DT, you will need to go fishless in there for 72 days to eradicate it.

It's not a fun process, but if you follow it you can beat this.

A FW dip will have no effect on ich as the trophonts feed under the epithelium. You’ll need to do a full regimen of copper (30 days) or TTM. As mentioned above, the display will need to remain fishless for 72 days as well.

What's the minimal water volume for a firefish QT ? I have no space left in my room so I'll prob get the smallest one I could.

Can you fit a 10g tank? I think a 5g would be a bit too small and you'd wind up with nutrient issues.

Nope, even my DT is only 8 gal. I'll try to get a 5 gal, I have a good big HOB so I'm quite sure thai I'm not gonna get nutrient issues.

If you go with TTM, two 5 gallon buckets is all you need. And because you'll be transferring the fish every 72 hours you won't have a problem with ammonia or nutrients.

Do a 5 minute fresh water dip first. Then TTM. A 90 minute Rally bath will also help.

So, I looked in the tank today and noticed that no more ich bumps are on my firefish. What happened? What should I do?

The trophonts only remain on the fish for 3-7 days before dropping off. However, the parasite then continues it's lifecycle "off fish" until it eventually returns in the water as free swimmers that reinfect. I.E. It will be back.
