Just sitting here enjoying my tank. Cold outside and a really nice fire going in the open fireplace. All of a sudden I wondered if the fire has an effect on my tank?!? I have heard that candles, nice smelly things that plug into the wall and such can have an adverse effect on an aquarium. Am I chasing rainbows here looking for another thing to worry about?

I have my aquarium right next to my wood stove and the wife burns so many thing that the house smells like a bakery...
No adverse effects to be reported that I know of except those smells make me hungry all the time.

I don't burn candles anymore, I use the imagineer type. Everyone knows if they're going to spray air freshener in the bathroom, close the door behind them. No air fresheners, anything like that. I've read too many stories on stuff getting into the water. We have a pellet stove that we use for heat, it burns clean and I don't have to fill up the propane tank. I'd rather not take any chances.

Been using wood as the primary heat source for decades with tanks in the same room both fresh and salt. It’s hasn’t been an issue. -44F realfeel outside right now, about +80F halfway between the wood stove and the tank. Life isn’t worth living without a wood stove.

I will tell you from experience. I have had a 400gallon system in a 1400sq ft home. My wife would always use sprays, air fresheners, essential oils, and candles. No negative affect whatsoever.

I now have a 700g system in a 3400sq ft open ranch. We have a double sided fireplace we use all the time which sits 10’ away from the tank. She does her oils , candles allll the time, and air freshener. Our house smells like a brothel... joking, but really they haven’t had any negatives for me and that’s speaking for years if experience.
