Roughly how long should it take for a frag of firework clove polyps to open up after being cut?

Depends. If you were careful when removing them and the base was not damaged they should open in a few hours. If the base where the stems grow from is torn or damaged it can take them several days to open.

I've ripped mine after they grew onto rocks and they usually open up in less than a day

Depends on the type...blue clove polyps are on the order of GSP/Xenia...the more decorative varieties, Firework for example, middle of the road.
