So, it’s currently lights out and as I was downstairs I figured to check on my 4’ tank. As I did this I found this guy, now it’s been a while since coming across a Hermodice carunculata. Any IDs on this guy? Seems to have snuck past my two Halichoeres wrasses - H. chloropterus and H. iridis.

Regular bristleworm. While not welcomed in my tanks , appreciated by many as they eat detritus and uneaten food

Looks like a standard bristle. Fireworms are unmistakable once you have seen one.

Thankyou both, I figured I’d double check as now I think of it it’s been a while (2 years now) since coming across a regular bristleworm aswell. It’s been Atleast 5 since coming across a Fireworm though so it was hard to remember for sure this wasn’t a fireworm.
Not a firework, that's for sure. It looks like a bristle to me, but I would still take it out.
Oh man, my phone seems to hate me when it’s late at night haha, just realised the spelling mistake too. Thankyou aswell this is really appreciated :)

Another question for you… I’m trying to tell myself it’s not anything bad. This looks, moves, behaves nothing like the other did.

It uses its legs to actually walk and the bristleworm basically crawled. This also has a defined head (3 antennae for sure… I don’t remember what else was on its head but it was a defined head that didn’t taper). My gut it saying bobbitworm and the longer I look at it the more I think it’s a young bobbit.

I have combatted 4 bobbitworms in the past but I can’t exactly remember what they looked like completely.

yeah, take that out. not the bristle worm, they're great. but that thing gotta go.
Any ID?

It’s currently morning and that was taken at 2am he later vanished after that photo was taken.

As for the behaviour, it was hunting throughout the cracks and crevices of the rocks. This thing has to have been Atleast 4/5 inches long, if not longer. As I mentioned, this actually used its legs to walk and was incredibly fast. No worm I have combatted, including bristleworms have shown this behaviour except one which was the bobbitworm. It doesn’t look like either of the 4 I found though in terms of colour. I’ll try see if I caught the head on camera.

Just checked it and nothing was caught, I think whatever this is made a run for the rocks and stayed there waiting for prey the rest of the night.
