Congrats on the first additions. I went with mushrooms, green star polyps, Xenia, and zoas/Palys to make sure they survived before going LPS then SPS. The hardier softies to test the waters and levels.

I have a bunch of fuzzy shrooms. They can get large and multiply. Your tank looks pretty small so good idea to keep it isolated from the rest of your rock. Great starter coral though. With luck, your clown will host it.

The tank looks great.
Slow additions are the way to go. I like the uncrowded look.
Thanks for posting.

I used to like those green Hairy Mushrooms until the took over my tank and started killing my other corals. I have since removed them. It took years for that to happen though.

Yes I love the look of them, hoping clown hosts it eventually! Separated from the rock on sandbed for now, will have to keep an eye on it though over time

This was my first hairy shroom on 8/10/19, shortly after it split for the first time:

I've also fragged off two of them and given them away.

Enjoy! I got a duncan that was 1 head about 6 months ago. It’s like 10+ now and growing fast. I love them!

Thanks! Should I expect a lot of color to grow over time? Or is it a coral that one the more neutral side of things

Nice scape, really like how it plays with the front to back depth. Good call on isolating those green fuzzy mushrooms. They can multiply quickly I put them on my rockwork and am starting to regret it as they are beginning to encroach on some other corals.

Duncans do come in a few subtle color variants, I am not sure if they can change colors with conditions like acros or other corals sometimes do. Duncans do grow fairly fast for a LPS coral but not as fast as many softies.

Thanks! I started with the rocks stacked in an arch, but realised I was loosing some valuable space in my small 10 gal IM. Definitely like the new scape and my goby has started digging tunnels throughout. First salt and reef tank so stoked to see it doing so well first shot.

One question on the duncan though. It seems to be opening up like crazy at night and fully extending. During the day its less open, and starts to extend later on in the evening. Is this a normal trait for duncans? My light is not very intense, have an AI prime HD at fairly low setting (see attached pic), + a 14 day acclimation at 50 %.

I don't believe its lighting, thinking it's more along the lines of feeling safer at night (after research). Do you have experience / some more knowledge on this subject?

Thanks!!

Love the colors on those ones! Will have to keep my eye out for some other variations at my LFS. Thinking of putting another one on the left side of the rock structure

Interesting, It is not unusual for many corals to have night time polyp extension to avoid predation, I don't see the polyps on my acros during the day because of my fish, but this is somewhat unusual for duncan corals. Duncans are typically open more during the day. Some diagnostic questions: How long has it been in the tank? corals can have jet lag so if the source had a different light schedule than you it may take some time to adjust. Duncans do like to eat so are you feeding them in the night? sometimes you may need to train them to your schedule by feeding them in the day so they open during that time, this is generally more the case with things like Sun corals, but I could maybe see this happening with duncans. Then how are your parameters? Could it be unhappy with anything? Sorry to not have definitive advice but I joke this hobby is more luck than skill, and there is a lot of truth in that.

I think you might be right on the jet lag, seems do be doing much better today! I also moved him a couple days ago to a much better location
