Soooooo
I am new to this

Been successfully managing a few fish in my 6 -7 week old reefer 450

Pulled the trigger on my first frags the other day
I have a 20 gallon QT setup in my basement
For them.

Brought them home and did a dip in coral RX and also revive

All I saw come off was a few good pods

QT has a 50/50 t8 in it 10k and actininc

Water comes
From water changes out of my DT

Have one small hydor nano power head in 240 gph and a home
Built frag rack from egg crate
10 pounds of rock, no sand

Filter is just a hang on the back Aquen and right now it has no media in it. It’s more just a pump right now

I have a bag and bio media for it
But have not needed it because its the first time the tank had ever had anything in it, QT tank has been cycling for say 5 weeks with bio spira and gets 5 gallons per week from my dT added / /swapped from it

I got a nice little cyphastrea on a rock and a war coral on a plug

What should I be looking for and checking as I see if I came keep them alive. I looked tonight and the war coral had its feeeders out

No other stock in the QT at all
Was thinking about maybe adding a damsel to it

Can you feed cyphastrea or Favia?

Can you all suggest some parameters I should be trying to keep on the QT
It’s annoying because I don’t have an apex on it so I’m having to keep a close eye on temp and salt manually.

If something starts to go wrong what should I look for? Color?

I put them
Both fairly low on the rack and it’s only an 18watt light anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions

congrats on your first frags. look for good color on both and polyp extension on the cyphastrea. You can feed them and the favia especially will show a feeding response. Seeing the feeder tentacles at night or if you turn off water flow is good. I use reef roids 1-2x a week but my cyphastrea do not really respond much. The favia love it though. I would not add fish or anything else to your QT. Keep an eye on the same parameters you would on your display; alk, cal, mag, ph, salinity, temp mainly.

First coral, or rather any new coral, is always exciting! Congrats.

Just watch them closely for bleaching and tissue recession mainly. Of course right now you should be very closely visually inspecting the frags for any signs of pests that may have snuck through the dip. Any eggs, eaten looking spots, etc.

Just try and keep the same parameters in QT as you would in DT. I would make sure to feed both of them, just give them some powder food such as reef roids or benepets or any kind of coral powder food 2-3 times a week since there isn't a fish load. Along that note, I wouuld definitely not add a fish, it will likely make things much more difficult. You'll have to deal with nutrients, feeding the fish, etc. Its a bigger hassle then its worth.
