First acro. Bleaching or paranoia?

That coral is in pretty bad shape. Miracles do happen, so dont trash it though. What are your params?

1.025
Cal:385
ALK:8.2
Mag ~1400 (haven't checked in a week or so)
Nitrate: <5

I believe it stared from an all burn, my alk was close to 10 when carbon dosing dropped my nitrates to 0.

I didn't move it down to the bottom of the tank until a few days ago when the paleness spread toward the base.

My Reef Ready Grape Juice acro had a little tissue left where it had encrusted, but was otherwise devoid of tissue. I removed it from the tank but the encrusted part remained. It began growing again and is now turning into a colony. Don't give up until there is no tissue left.

I guess I'm not sure how to tell the difference.

Your first batch of pictures showed no tissue loss. The pictures from post 13 on showed some tissue loss. If the whole thing or a large section is completely white, there is no tissue on that section. Google "dead acro reef" and look at the first and third pictures. You can clearly see the missing and remaining tissue on the corals.

Thank you, that was very helpful!

Is it okay to remove it from the water for examination?

Yeah, it is natural, but dont overdo it for a weakened acro. Good luck

Looks like it's only left on one side.

Man, that looks bad. Dead branches can be snipped. If theres a chance it will live keep it. Good luck with your Coral.

It's hard to tell if that's algae or tissue. Tissue is usually brown when the acro is removed from the water. I think it might be gone.

The first picture is definitely coral tissue. I trimmed the top and some branches from the back.

I was looking at it on my phone last night, but I can see the tissue now that I'm on a computer.

Hard to see pictures, and again this is my first sps, but I'm pretty sure I see some polyps hanging out in front there. [emoji16]

Does running activated carbon have an affect on sps? I pulled it about a week ago and everything is looking a little better actually.
