First aiptasia outbreak from KP rocks

Well KP cant claim all their rocks are aiptasia free anymore because I have mine curing with no outside contaminats that could have brought it in.

I hear peppermint shrimp are hit or miss but will be picking up one over the weekend. What kinds of nudibranchs should I look for?

Pics to make sure it is Aiptasia? There are numerous other nems associated with S. Florida that can resemble Aips when small, but are not actually Aips.

Edit: This is also needed, as if they are not Aips and you want gone, then typical methods of removal (outside of kalk paste or injecting with something) will not work.

I make a semi thick solution of Kalkwasser and white vinegar and target feed with pipette. High ph will kill them off.

Pictures aren’t the best cause I was half asleep when I took them before bed doing my final round before lights. I’ve had the rocks for 2-3 weeks and just noticed it

I don't think those pics are really clear enough to be conclusive. Could you try some half awake ones? White light, clear view of the mouth and oral disk would help.

I was unsuccessful in taking a picture on lunch. As soon as I upped the white lights and picked the rock up to get a better angle on a picture it moved to a hole in the rock where you could barely see it.

The only peppermints I have had success with actually eating aptasia right from the get/go are ones I got from Petco. Not 100% sure the species but I think they are Lysmata boggessi.

true aiptasia (the kind we think of) do not live in the keys or gulf. They are not native there so that is why they make this claim. What you are seeing is a not so invasive relative. Bulb anenome, warty, lightbulb, curly cue etc.

Your nem has bands on it. Maybe a baby curley cue.

The spirals on it develop as it matures and grows large. It pairs with a pistol shrimp.

That being said... people are pretty stupid and it would not take much for someone to dump some true aiptasia rock in the gulf and contaminate everything with its invasive ways. Just look at the lion fish.

Looks like baby curly que nem. Most aips will not have a puffy mouth like yours. Baby curlys will. You should also see individual tentacle movement with a curly. This is also not a trait seen in aips.

If you do want to remove, you can just make it retract and cover with superglue or use a nem cannon to make it move on its own. Would require a short piece of 1/2” pvc and a small sponge. Write up can be found in a sticky in the nem and clownfish section. Then you can rehome it or put on a rock in the sump by the drains. It will capture uneaten food there.

They are curliques based on last few photos and would be typical of carribean/Florida waters
