Hello! I'm new to the Hobby!

This weekend i bought my first (Ocellaris) Clown pair, I was wondering, when it comes to Anem, what would you recommend being my first one? Also how long should i wait to get one? My tank has been up for about a month, All water chems are 0 with nitrates between 0-5. I dosed a small bottle of bacteria last week, and i have been feeding the bacteria daily Just because i'm nervous. I had a diatom bloom but that was about it during the cycle. and the CuC made quick work of it in about a week.

I'm aware i should probably hold off for a bit on getting an Anem, but recommendations so i can do some research on it would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a picture of Jim and Pam excuse the terrible quality, i haven't gotten the picture thing down yet.

It's best to have your tank running for a year before introducing a Anemone in my opinion. When the time comes I would recommend a BTA ( Bubble Tip Anemone ) There is a lot of great knowledge on R2R I definitely recommend using it when you get one as they can nuke your tank if they pass away.

I would go with a bta. If you place it where it can extend into and pull away from both light and flow, it will stay put. Mine likes both high light and high flow.

They are fickle but once they settle in, they are very hardy.

What type of anemone should I get for my clownfish?

This is a very common question, and a good one. Because in many cases the type of anemone can make a big difference. Since this website is about Ocellaris Clownfish, we’ll mainly focus on them, as well as Perculas, since they have very similar requirements.

In the wild, A. ocellaris and A. percula host only Heteractis magnifica, the Magnificent Sea Anemone, Stichodactyla gigantea, the Giant Carpet Anemone, Heractis crispa, Sebae Anemone and Stichodactyla mertensii, Merten’s Carpet Anemone. Unfortunately, these are generally not great choices for the average enthusiast. They either get quite large or are somewhat delicate in their requirements (or both).

But fear not! There is another anemone that is fairly common in captive reefs, which will host both Percula and Ocellaris clowns. Entacmaea quadricolor, or the Bubble Tip Anemone, is relatively easy to care for and serves as a very good surrogate for hosting Ocellaris and Perculas.

Many people would say to wait at least 6 months before adding a nem, especially if you're new to saltwater aquaria. A BTA is almost certainly your best choice for a first nem, as they look nice, aren't too expensive, and are pretty hardy and tolerant of varying conditions compared to other species. However your ocellaris clowns likely won't take to the nem right away as it's not one of their natural hosts, and there really isn't any foolproof way to speed up the process, so you just have to wait until they decide it's the right time. Might be a week, might be 3 months, might even be never.

But it’s a wonderful few months as they start swimming around it and then start mouthing the tentacles and then a seam busts in your sump and you break down your tank to get the sump out and throw all fish and light demanding corals with nem into a 20 gal and the next morning, your clowns have moved in.
