Hi! I’ve had my reef aquarium up and running for about 10 months now. I added my first bubble tip anemone around the 7 month point.

Just the other day he split and now both are all blown up. Neither of them have really opened since this happened, it’s been about 4 days or so. The original one didn’t have the bubble tips too often either, only a few tentacles here and the would bubble up. Do I need to be concerned?

I’ve ready that they can split for both good and bad reasons. I’ve checked my parameters and everything is spot on except the magnesium is low. I’ve dosed it now and will check it daily until it’s up where it needs to be. Could that have been the issue?

Forgot to mention that the corals seem to be doing just fine and I use the AB+ template with the radion mobius lights

Just be patient. Think about that all the flesh, mouth etc. is split in half and need to recover. Don't think you need to worry ! :)
Thanks! I hope that’s the case. I was getting concerned since I read they may split if they aren’t doing well and since this is my first one I don’t really know what is normal and what isn’t

Just wanted to add that in my experience, bta’s not bubbling isn’t a concern either. In my tank, my bta’s decide to bubble one day randomly and then later on decide to not bubble and have long tentacles. I am also running the AB+ template for my radions but with some adjustments to some of the sliders :). Here’s some of my bta anemones that all are natural splits. Some have bubbles, some don’t.

Beautiful!

From what little I know it has to heal what was spilt to complete itself. Think of it this way if you where able to split in half you would have to regrow body parts on each half to make up for what it lost. Give it a month I can almost assure you it will be fine. Nice looking tank by the way!!

Thank you!

Looks healthy, just closed. I'd only be concerned if they start going through a deflation cycle with gaping mouth and shrinking over time.

Kids don’t try this at home.
