Hi guys, I have my first anemone coming in the mail today! I know how to care for it and everything but was wandering what to expect to see when it arrives. I would like to be able to identify if it’s ok from the mail other than checking the foot for damage.

As long as the mouth isn't gaping and it isn't bleached, it is likely in decent shape. Drip acclimate, keto your parameters stable, and be prepared for some wandering while it decides where it wants to live.

I personally haven't had either my BTA or LTA wander because I found great places for them before putting them in, but that's probably the exception, not the rule.

Don't be alarmed if it retracts a lot as it gets used to your tank, as this is common behavior.

The guy on eBay called it a rainbow but it doesn’t look like one I’ve ever seen. It was a good deal I couldn’t pass up.

Ok, he arrived safe and healthy. It looks to me like he already attached his foot to the rock. He opened up real quick , so fast in fact that he was reaching around just when I pulled the bag out of the box. How long should I wait before turning on the light? My coral are irritated because of me. (Sorry for the bad pic it’s hard to get a good clear one without light.)

Do you have a light with an acclimation mode? If so, start that up. If not, pull that bandaid off and turn them on. The anemone will move to a spot with the light and flow that it likes.

Ok thanks I’ll turn it on, unfortunately it doesn’t have acclimation mode but I’ll put it on night mode.
