I would appreciate some advice as this is my first attempt. This is a RS 525XL and I intend to keep LPS and possibly SPS in time. I haven't yet bonded any of the rocks. I intend on using some rods provided by the LFS.
I was trying to provide multiple layers with enough enclosed areas for some finicky fish. I plan on adding some islands to the front for additional corals.

I like the overall design but I personally, if you are going to use two totally different types or rock, would mix them both together throughout the whole aquascape. Just my opinion of course :)

Are you using two different types of rock?
Yes, the LFS had a good selection and I figured I would pick up a little of both. I'm not terribly concerned with the dissimilar colors as I intend to cover everything with corals.

I was trying to mix the two but the fitment and layout wasn't working or I just don't know what the heck I'm doing. Probably the latter. I'll keep working it.

That vertical rock in the middle looks out of place to me, I like the rest.
Are you talking about the piece of cardboard I used to temporarily support the horizontal piece? A buddy asked about the same thing. :)

Consider varying the heights of the 2 structures to look more "natural" and avoid symmetry; and angling one of them slightly to suggest more depth. Remember that when your corals fill in the details are lost and only the basic structure counts.
I appreciate the advice. I was considering adding to the structure on the left, adding to the height. Regarding the angling, are you saying to angle one of the structures towards the front or back? I should have taken a side photo as the structure on the right is approximately 2" further forward than the structure on the left. I will continue to play with the layout. Thanks again.

I was planning on chipping and chiseling some of the pieces so they fit together more tightly. I have a bunch of fiberglass rods from the LFS but should I consider using an epoxy or super glue? I was hoping the combination of the tight fit and rods should secure the pieces. Thoughts/advice?

Thanks again

I like it. My only suggestions is to try and bring some structure to the foreground to give the scape some depth. As it is it looks a little 2D. Hope that helps.
