I think it is ok. Personally I just put some glue on the bottom of the frag and hold it where I want for about 20 seconds and it stays. I would try to use less next time, will save you money over time from buying glue/epoxy.

Cheers. There was a whole that the plug sat in so it was growing upwards but not out from the base. So ive tried gluing up to the stems all the way around in hope that it now starts to grow over the glue.

Instead of an epoxy/putty you should use a super glue gel. Just put a bit on the bottom of your coral and hold it in place for 10secs or so and it should be good. For a high flow area u might have to turn your pumps off for a little bit. It might take a few times at first but you get the hang of.

I'd avoid epoxy as much as possible. It heats up as it cures, thus potentially damaging your coral, and it causes skimmers to go berserk from released "something" from the epoxy curing process.

I like to glue to a plug and then use a diamond hole saw drill bit to drill holes in my rocks.
