First attempt at SPS - Montipora - need some advice

Hi everyone: I was at LFS today and they had a frag of a red monti cheap enough for me to try my hand at SPS.

Right now I have it on a frag plug stuck to the highest point of a rock in my system...whether it's enough light, I'll have to determine, but for now it's there.

Does the montipora have to be touching rock? Right now it's perched on the frag plug and the coral is not touching any of the rock as the stem of the frag plug is giving a distance of 1/4 inch from the top of the frag plug.

The monti will encrust down and span the gap between the plug and rock.
