Its a 29g tank. Right now I have 35lbs of rock in it. It seems like a lot of rock. I am thinking that I need to get some smaller pieces of rock and split this into two separate structures. Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Get a side angle shot. In my 75g, I have approx 80lb of live rock and the key is caves and hiding spot. Beware of creating deep shadows if your gonna do coral. Nonphotosynthetic corals require more care specifically feeding and flow is harder because caves act as stops for flow.

You can always break the bigger pieces of rock you already have if you’re not feeling the structure you have right now. A strategic whack with a hammer will easily break the rock. Honestly I don’t think it looks too bad for your first attempt.
