First chaeto run

Never helped my nitrate problem but did lower my phosphate. just my experience

These pics were taken just under a month apart my Nitrates we’re at almost 30ppm and now I have to bring it up I’m at 0.0 ( I also reduced bio load but I still lost all that with no water change)

What is in your far right chamber next to the fuge?

How long till your chaeto started reducing nitrates? What light are you using? What size fuge area.
I wouldn't rely on a fuge as a fix all for nitrates but I do like the natural approach. Mine has been active over a year now. Chaeto grows huge and pruned back weekly. My nitrates stay consistent around 10. I feed heavy twice a day and have a very full bioload.

For me, once my tank passed the one year mark everything like nitrates became much more consistent and stable. I dose PNS probio weekly which is a natural bacteria supplement that eliminates organic waste before it becomes nitrates. Keeps the tank sparkling clean.

50 gallon refuge for 180 DY and 50 sump.
My chaeto is about 2ft x 1ft x 1ft.
Nitrate slowly but consistently dropped over 3 months from 25 to 10ppm and been holding there for a year or so now.
Once a month, I toss about 25%.
Heavy feeder and 4 large tangs.

Tank before this was running a bit over a year all this rock was also mature rock to speed up the process so i can move everything from previous tank to this one. I just want them at a stable number so i can do less water changes.

I've cut water changes to every 3 weeks now but doing that requires other supplements like trace elements dosing too.

its a 125, nice yeah I though about buying enough to fill my fuge but I’m glad I saved my money with how fast it grew … same with the light I was looking into more expensive lights but ended up snagging mine at Walmart with the attitude of if it wasn’t working super well I wasn’t out much money but it’s working great
