We purchased our first clown fish on Sunday (and 5 hermit crabs) and they have materially been hanging out on one spot on the sand together. I noticed today they appear to have some white spots on the orange near their heads. I have not been able to get them to eat yet. Tank has been running since September. Is this something I can treat? I do not have a quarantine tank set up.
Thanks.

That looks like it could be brooklynella. I’m no expert, but one should be along shortly. I would be setting up a quarantine tank immediately. A $20 Walmart kit is fine. Just get a small air pump and stone too.

Looks like another case of Brook. Seems to be a thing today. Here's a good write up on how to treat.

Definitely Brooklynella, you’ll need to set up a QT give the clowns a 90 min Ruby Reef Rally bath then treat with metroplex at 2 scoops per 10G in QT.

Thanks all. I have set up a 10 gallon qt with a sponge filter. I did 90 minutes of reef rally and the first dose of metroplex. One clown seems significantly more active. The other is struggling. Neither are eating.

Try some brine shrimp to get them eating in qt with all the meds. IDK of a clown that will ever turn down brine shrimp.
Hikari sells frozen brine shrimp that are gut loaded with spirulina. Will keep them feed at least until they beat the Brook.

Brook is a quick killer I am crossing my fingers for you.

I wouldn't worry too much about them not eating at this point. If the medicine takes affect and they start to improve, they'll eat. If you don't get that brook under control, it will kill them long before starvation does.

Well one did not make it. One is eating and full of energy. This may be an ignorant question, but can I add another fish to the qt? I know the display tank has to be fish less for quite a while, but is it safe to add other fish to the qt? Is there a simple qt medication approach I should follow beyond metroplex? Thanks.

I wouldn’t add new fish to a hospital tank.

If you were to add new fish to a qt, the whole process/clock has to start over again. If you put a new one in a hospital tank, you have to treat the new one like he’s infected too. I’m sure you could do it, but I wouldn’t. Not after my experiences. I’d start a second QT for the new fish before I’d add him to the existing one.

Indeed it looks brooklynella I got the same I'm using Aquarium Münster Protomor after one day it looks a lot better.
