Hello everyone, my wife is a photographer and I have been asking her for a while now to take some pictures of my corals. She doesnt have a macro lens but I plan to get her one soon.

Her camera is a Canon 5D Mark II. What macro lens do you recommend for this camera?

Let me know what you all think. Any suggestions for improvement would be great.

100 mm macro f-2.8 They’re around $550 but work really nice. Edit- They’re only $449
Thank you. The reviews on this lens are really good. Think I might grab one of these to try it out. Need to let my corals grow out more though to justify the purchase to my wife. :-)

I decided to grab me one after the reviews I read. Good luck with it

That's the lens I use, I got one used on Adorama for about $350 in "E" (excellent) condition. I love it.

Ask to shoot in raw and post process the white balance in Lightroom... the pictures look good already, just need to adjust the white balance to eliminate that blue hue

Agree, also in Lightroom/photoshop you can tone down the highlights which will help with the glare like on the Elegance and Bowerbanki shots. Looks good, keep shooting.

Get a orange gel filter it will make a big difference too

Awesome. Thanks everyone for the advice. I will recommend everything to my wife. She does the pictures and editing. I just grow the coral. :-) I cannot wait to continue taking pictures. Thanks again!!

You can also rent a lens on lensrentals.com and if you decide you like the lens, you can buy it from them. They will deduct the rental cost from the purchase price also if you decide to keep it.

My wife said the same thing last night. She usually rents lens for schools, etc. I just need to justify the lens cost just for my corals.... :-). Any suggestions? LOL

Evening,

Not sure what a macro lens or Lightroom is, but like the pix. The last pix of monti crazy cool, looks like just floating there. Keep posting

Thank you. I glued it to the rock that way hoping it will grow upward and look like a cup floating. I see you live in Charlotte. I live in Concord myself. Nice to see locals.
