I bought my first fish pair a little over a week ago, everything had appear to of been fine. (Cosmo and Wanda blue green chromis)

I found one dead this evening. He had been acting strange the last few days. He some how got over my overflow and was swimming around down there. I fished him back out to the main tank. Since then had been hiding and not swimming with his friend. The other has been acting fine and eating regularly.

Do you see any sign of disease?? Just want to make sure things look good and it could have just been stress related?

I was for about 3 weeks, but my numbers were down to 0-0-5 for the last week or so of it so lfs told me to add 2 chromis

Since ive added I've checked parameters every day. It spiked to .5 ammonia in the first 24 hours but has been 0 since, 0 nitrites, and nitrates have stayed around 5-10ppm. 1.024 salinity and 78/25 temp

Your thread, with your tank filled with RODI, was made on October 22nd. That is 2 weeks ago. You added the fish "a little over a week ago".

I would attribute the death to adding fish to an immature tank. 1 week is not an adequate time before adding fish.

Agree with this. That fish doesn’t look diseased adding credence to the theory that you have added fish too soon.

In this hobby, nothing good happens quickly. Take your time, slow down, and do research! :)

Oh my. I guess I didn't realize how short of time it had been :/ but the other fish is doing just fine.. should I pull it out and take it back to the store?

I dont know at this point. The tank is 2 weeks old, but if the fish survived for week already so it MIGHT be okay.

Take this as a cheap lesson, perhaps? Nothing good happens fast in this hobby :(
