Just wanted to share my first "build". Honestly did it in half a day, just slapped it together. 2nd day in the new place and I couldn't wait for my display tank so I figured I'd build out my macros for the refugium now. I'm taking the 65 gallon mainstage slow and still building out the plumbing plans for now. Feel free to critique, I just put live sand, live rock, chaeto, SW and a pump. Want it very low maintenance with the natural sunlight but may always be forgetting something. Cheers!

Refugiumms do not need to be macro algae filters And display refugium are not necessarily nutrient export mechanisms.

Until you have a nutrient source your Chaetomorphy will suffer. If you wish to start with macro algae, I suggest Bortacladia, a decorative low light red macroalgae.

Botryocladia is a beautiful specimen that does very well in the marine aquarium. It features stiff, lightly calcified branches with bright red air bladders. It resembles a cluster of grapes and is sometimes referred to as Red Grape Caulerpa, although it is not a species of Caulerpa at all. Depending on the species, it can grow in rather large clumps attached to rocks and coral fragments in depths of up to 30 feet or more. It is very hardy and seems to do well in aquariums with good water quality and low to medium lighting. There are several varieties available in the aquarium trade, but identification can be difficult as they all have the same basic characteristics.

Like what @Subsea said, this not a refugium By definition a refugium is attached to another system.

This is just a macro algae tank, which a lot of people do, (and we even have a sub forum for them)

I probably would add a small nano fish and some caulerpa in there as chaeto isn't really a great macroalgae for macroalgae tanks. (floats around, is just focused on nutrient exports, etc). the fish is to add nutrients and movement into it.

I think it looks great and will work fine as the refugium for the tank you plan to add later. I am working on something similar.
