Will be moving in a month and planned to replace my old 55 gallon that’s about 10 yrs old with a brand new one from petcos dollar per gallon sale. I want to do a DIY stand and have found something my future wife will put up with as a stand and will look something like this. But with a more natural wood look and thankfully she will be doing the staining lol

I’m pretty sure I’ll be using this frame idea I found on nanoreef as a guideline with 2x4’s

Just kind of curious how difficult would you guys rate this for being my first woodworking attempt? I will have oversight from someone who has done plenty of woodworking but I want to learn too.

Looks like a good plan

A lot of reefers have used this plan, you can actually Google rocket engineer and the original plans and directions will come up it also includes the cut list math. Actually there you go, try this link.

A 55 gallon in roughly that same style was my very first woodworking attempt, and is what got me into the woodworking hobby. To me it's one of the easiest but most helpful projects to start with - it's very forgiving and the pieces are cheap, but it offers many lessons on planning and measuring. I'll try to dig up some pictures it was a long time ago.

Found the frame - similar but not quite same design. I maybe had to throw away $6 worth of 2x4s in the process as a first timer. You will have no trouble especially if you have oversight. I've since added a more refined shell (started it with basic cedar boards but it didn't go well enough with house decor) - something you can do later as well with the same frame if you enjoy the experience.

Thanks! I had the cut written down but lost the thread for it thanks!

@ZsWithTheFishes thanks I’d love to see some more pics! I’ll be sure to post up some pics next month when the stand is done and get the tank on top

Tank stand is built and the new 55 was put up today. A little early due to the old one getting a small leak (good thing the stand was built already).

The doors warped a smidge and won’t shut not but nothing horrible. Might fix them might not don’t know yet.

Now the fun starts. Hope the plants still grow after being transplanted.

Sorry not a reef tank but still [emoji16]
