I’m looking at purchasing my first doser. I have an Apex controller and was wondering if I should just breakdown and get the Dos or go with a cheaper option? I would only be dosing 2 part for the foreseeable future. If a cheaper unit is the option, what brand or model would y’all recommend?

I just bought a BRS 1.1ml doser and they go for $70 each. I haven't set it up yet though. I also have the BRS 50ml doser that i use as top off and it has been running for four years. I have had to replace the tubing once.

I've been using the DOS and really enjoy it. You can go into Apex Fusion and tell it what to dose over what amount of time and it'll automatically split up the dosing in equal amounts over the time period specified. It can be a little loud, but works great :)

I like the thought of that kind of control, how long have you been running the Dos? Any problems with it

I agree with @Crabs McJones on the DOS.....I would stay away from the expensive DDRs though.....the optical sensors in those are junk. Mine went into Neptune for repair multiple times before I gave up and just ripped them out. I use two separate DOS units....one for 2 part (has been running for over a year with little problems) and one for automatic water changes.

Agree, plus the dos is only about 1/2 gallon so it seems like im filling it up constantly.

Thanks for the info, I was planning on getting the ddr with the Dos so I will scratch that idea. Are the sensors in the ddr the same as Neptune’s atk? Cuz my atk has never worked like it should.

I am not sure since I use a Tunze ATO. For what the DDR costs it should have some decent sensors though :( I now have a very expensive (at least it is nice looking!) acrylic dosing container....which doesn't even hold that much lol. I had to send it in several times since I have had it....twice for failed sensors and once for a failed board.

I dose Aquaforest 3 part using DOS. Unfortunately that means I need 2 heads but I have used the spare doser for LC and NoPoX when I needed it earlier. Mine have been running for about 15 months now with no issues. Expensive (esp for us in Australia) but good. I particularly like the fact I can spread my dosing over a very long time period to help with stability, and control directly from Fusion.

I agree with prior posts, the DDRs are overpriced acrylic containers and the reports on their poor quality are numerous and disappointing. I bought a nice 3 chamber acrylic reservoir instead and it works fine at a fraction of the cost of DDRs.

One tip I have is to dip the dosing line in boiled water before fitting it to the DOS to allow you to tighten it up nice and firmly. Before I did this I had issues with air leaks on one of the dosers.
