Hi all, typical story, recently bought 2 clowns, all looked good- no I see 1 white spot on the B&w one and 3 on the orange. At first I thought they were a particle from the water and look like they are raised I.E. could be scraped off rather than a skin blemish- does that make sense?
The clowns are in my newly cycled DT with a cleaner shrimp.
I did set up a QT 60ltr cube but chose to put in the half dozen corals in there as I was ‘less sure’ of their source tank then I was the lfs where the clowns came from.
Am I likely looking at ick rather than lymphomer whatsit?
I have no meds on hand and lfs is 2 hours away so was thinking swap the coral and clowns over so fish in QT then lower the salinity ( I have a dig refracto) to 1.009? How long to leave at that? Before starting to raise back up- is that then it? Is it a case of do this until it visibly gets worse and introduce meds ?

Coral and shrimp are then in DT so maintain them but keep fishless for 76 days?

Sorry for the noob questions on what must be repeated over 50 threads- I’ve looked at Humblefish threads I’m just not confident and want to check my thinking

Thanks in advance

spit looks like a ‘flake’ on top just by the first white stripe- other are on fin tip

I don’t see ich on the top of the fish, are there any smaller spots?

No, I wondered this- the spots aren’t small like I imagined they would be
Was trying to get a vid or better pics but nigh on impossible
Would spots from lymph be ‘larger’

I don’t see anything on the fish in the photo... are you seeing any other symptoms? Scratching, twitching, excessive yawning, head shaking, darting, etc?

Another thing to consider, since they are a “new” pair they could be still establishing which will become the female. Could be love bites.

Behavior normal I thought, there is some darting about but I figured due to them being tiny and having lots of space then y not! It’s not repeated up and down tho just the occasionsl sprint.. no breathing isssues no flashing or scratching. still devouring the Mysis , the marks started on the end of the pectoral fin that’s y I figured spot rather than bite- they do get a little feisty and is interesting to watch but I hadn’t noticed love bites as such
Either way all suggestions are not ick tho so that’s a plus
Thankyou all

I’d be delighted if I’m worrying about nothing, can’t help it with all these sick fish threads it’s enough to make ya paranoid

At this point, if it is disease, your DT is infected. There would be nothing to gain by swapping your corals and fish. If it is something that requires treatment with copper, then I would pull them from the DT for treatment and go fallow in the DT for 90 days (Yes; the rule is 76 days. But I like round numbers and if I can wait 76 days, I can wait 90).

I did successfully treat a puffer with Ich by using FW dips and hypo-salinity. I ran a slow drip of RODI into a partially filled QT which was around 1.025. I monitored the salinity while doing the drip until salinity was down to 1.010 (It took about 14 hours), and let it sit there for a month before slowly bringing the salinity back up with the same method using freshly made water.

Mind you, this is only effective sometimes. I tried this method because I wanted to avoid using chemicals if possible.

Do they normally just ‘lie down’?

Sure... this is normal behavior. I have a pair of Tomato Clowns that do this all the time. There's nothing wrong with them and have done it for as long as I've had them... 8 years.

How long did you cycle the tank? Looks really clean. Have you tested for ammonia?

Tank cycled for 6 weeks in all, amo and nitrate 0 nitrate 8ppm

It’s not clean anymore there algae all over the rock, diatoms on the sand and growth starting in the back- obvs I’m just brilliant at photography lol

I was just going to say it kind of looks like ammonia burn. Ammonia will ‘burn’ away a fishes protective mucus coating and leave it susceptible to bacterial infections.

sorry it took so long to reply - understood on the ammonia burn piece - it actually looks like i was worried over nothing - and the love bites explanation suited best
ive been trying to observe better and relax lol i love the personality of these clowns - can really see why they are a popular fish other than disney and their hardiness
after keeping cichlids for decades these clowns are amazing to watch and compete with my past favourite Oscar pair i had in an 8ft

I had a pair of clowns once. Twice actually. Their lovely fish. Especially when they get big and plump. I can see why they’re widely adored.
