Hello Everyone,

I am new to the hobby and about to begin adding fish to my new 125 gal tank (Will be a mixed reef). I am debating on which to add first, a pair of clowns or 5 black axil chromis. Not sure if they should be added in a particular order. My stock wish list is below:
-Clownfish pair
-Black Axil Chromis (maybe 5)
-Purple tang
-Powder Blue tang
-maybe fox face
-a goby (not sure yet)
-possibly a wrasse

I will be quarantining all fish prior to adding to the 125. Your advice is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

I would say you can introduce the clownfish or chromis at first. (Maybe clownfish for bioload) Goby after the others have established, followed by the wrasse. If everything goes well introduce the fox face.

I would suggest to put in the tangs together, being the last to enter the tank.

Generally you’d want to try and add the more peaceful / shy temperament fish first maybe the goby once cycled. Clowns may be semi aggresive to other fish besides themselves, know a person who added a firetail after clowns established their territory over the tank and they killed the firetail constantly biting at the goby till it died from stress by the time he noticed.

welcome to R2R, JB! :D

like DSFa said, aggression level best dictates the sequence.

my respectful suggestion:
- goby
- wrasse (quite variable here)
- foxface
- black axil chromis
- clownfish pair
- purple tang
- powder blue tang

seems like there’s always some “undiscovered” cool fish you weren’t aware of when it comes to finalizing lists (for me at least hehe). good luck with the stocking and points for the QT prep!

cheers! (^__^)v

Thanks for all of your feedback! As for the Goby QT, should I put a container with sand for them? Since copper will be in the water, will that be ok? Also, could I QT different gobies at the same time?

Thanks a lot for the link. Also, where in the list should a flame angel go?
Good thing about most gobys are they live near the sandbed in the ocean so they're actually quite resistant to general parasites like itch as they've evolved to adapt to it through time. They actually have skin rather than scales so parasites can't get into them as easily although they CAN get it very unlikely.

Flame angles are sometimes hard to get eating and can peck away at corals if you are unlucky. They are also fairly semi-aggresive if you get a bast*rd.

Best of luck man!

Thanks for the info on the goby, I didn't know that. As for the flame angel, I would be extremely mad if it started picking off corals. I might add it last and watch it like a hawk and see what happens..def a beautiful fish though.
