Hello all! I am ready to start my first fuge. I have moderately high nutrients and have a hard time bringing them down woth water changes so I think its time. I have the Kessil H80 fuge light and I picked up some chaeto today from the LFS. Ive never looked beforr but down everyone fresh water dip their chaeto? I could not see any pests in the system but who knows. So I was just wondering what everyone does when adding chato for the first time? Thanks!

I just threw it in there. I didn't want to kill any pods that it might have had. I understand the caution though.

DITTO. I'm sure a good rinse with RO/DI wouldn't hurt. A good visual inspection might be a good idea too.

Hello! Just fresh water dipped and started inspecting my new chaeto for my first fuge.i found 2 of these critters on my chaeto. Any help with ID? I think theyre just bristle worms but wanted to see what some of the pros think.

Yep. Bristle worms. I have them in my fuge too. I just leave them to do their thing, but a lot of folks don't care for them. They're easy enough to remove. Just use tweezers or gloves cause they will give a nasty sting.

Yeah, I found them when I was inspecting the chaeto. One of them got me when I first grabbed the ball of chaeto. Not too pleasant....

I am going to dial in how long I want to run my fuge light based on my nutrient uptake.

Good idea. Lots of folks run the lights oposite the display to keep ph up while any algae in the tank is not processing CO2. Others (like me) run theirs much longer. I would suggest that when you dial in your fuge lighting schedule, that you include the "lights out" period as part of the schedule.
