first glass build

i've disassembled a 55 gallon tank and want to build a shallow freshwater shrimp tank with external overflow box and c2c. 1/4 inch thick glass. should i notch the rear or cut entire piece?

if cut entire, do i fill the gap with a glass sliver or just fill with silicone?
