I had a hob skimmer with a canister filter, and never had much luck with it working. I've upgraded to a sump setup, and added a new skimmer on Saturday, it overskimmed for about a day now seems to have settled down. It's a reefer rsk 300. Very light bioload at the moment in about 130 gallons of water. Does this skim look good so far? It's gotten about 1/2 liter of this in 36 hours.

skimmate looks a bit wet, but not bad. Protein skimmers take some time to break in and with your light bio load, there may not be enough gunk in the water to produce a thick sludge. My suggestion is, test first and see where your parameters are at. If nutrients are low, dial the skimmer down a bit and see if you can get it to produce heavier skimmate.

Cool, thanks, I thought it looked a bit watery myself, but only have YouTube videos to go by. Last I checked a week ago, before I got the skimmer, nitrate was 0 to 5, and phosphate didn't register any.
