No point to this post really, just broke my heart.

Woke up this morning to my black ray goby hanging from my cover; only introduced him and his buddy shrimp a week ago on Saturday.

His poor little jaws were locked around the net where he was obviously trying to chew his way back into the tank from the top.

Farewell little guy, I’m so sorry I failed you.

I understand your feeling on your loss. Sad all around. Every time I think of the few that I’ve lost, I still get a upset feeling. Just try to figure out if it was stressed by something, how it jumped out, and continue to strive to make your reef the safest happiest reef for your inhabitants…

Yup, also it's a Goby, they have a tendency to leap no matter what.

Sorry for your loss.
You have a top? Cover? Sounds like u do...
:/
Sorry again.
-d
Yeah - the RedSea cover kit for the 425XL... Net spacing was just big enough for the little guy to shoot through and catch himself like 10cm / 4" from the back corner of the tank.

Even if he had wiggled his way out he wouldn't have been able to get back through.

Looking into a Clearview now...

Do you think you’ll try this species again or try get another shrimp goby such as S. yasha?
I definitely need another as my poor pistol shrimp Clint is now all alone...

Would probably go with either a Randall or another Black Ray as the Yasha is a good 30% smaller than the other stonogobiops

Yeah, my original plan was between a Randall or a Black Ray but wound up with a Yasha and still don’t regret it, I just don’t know how I’d feel about pairing it with a shrimp since he’s 2” but on the thinner side of gobies (I own 2 other species of goby - A Black Clown Goby and a Hectors Goby). I’d love to grab a Black Ray if I ever find one but I’ve not seen one in years, I’ve seen one Randall in the past 3 years but other than that, I see more yasha’s than any other shrimp goby so, when mine passes (Hopefully I can get another year with him) I don’t know what I’ll do.

I am so sorry for your loss :(

It's prob not your fault!

We called em high fin gobys back when I had 1 with a tiger pistol.
Also had the small red randalls shrimp. Can't remember what fish I had with him.
Kool little relationship with the burrom and sharing a home.
Fwiw those little.gobys are tiny and will fit through even smaller 1/4" square spacing net.
:/

When fish jump in a home aquarium its my guess they are startled or scared and run. Hit the wall and go up.

I agree not a lot u coulda done.
D

Oh no. That's bad, I am so sorry. I feel you too. So many hours of work and so much money to be put in for a plastic part to break and kill everything.
