Everyone, I have been stalking your posts as a non member and it helped me get things straight before I jumped into this hobby. I have had many freshwater tanks but this is my first Marine tank.
For this tank I decided on a EVO 13.5 Nano tank to learn on. This is hopefully going to be the start of a hobby so once I tinker and make a few mistakes I can move on to a bigger tank and use this for either a tank in my office or for a different purpose like growing corals (will upgrade pumps and lights).
What I started with:
Evo 13.5 Nano Tank
InTank Stage 1 and 2 Filters
7 Lbs of Live Rock to create 2 bridges (will show pictures later)
20 Lbs of Live sand (used about 11 so far)
Stock 50 watt Heater, pump & Light
Right now I have everything in the tank with 10 gallons (need 1 more) of salt water from my LFS. I am running the stock filter while I let the tank settle and to become clear. I plan on tossing the stock foam filter once I am done with the cycle anyways.
Hopefully the tank will be settled enough tomorrow to add some more sand where needed and clean out the chambers before replacing the media with my in tank baskets.
I appreciate everyone here that has written about your lessons learned, I was able to pick up the hobby with the right approach because of you.
