hello everyone,

next month im looking to buy a full set up tank off someone, this is what im getting 4ft juwel rio aquarium set up as a marine tank, 28kgs of live rock, live crushed coral sandbed about 2" deep, 2 tunze 6025 power heads deltec mce 300 skimmer, internal juwel filterbox has carbon and filter floss in with 1000lph powerhead, livestock consist of : a flame angle, yellow tang, pair of clownfish, manderin, 2 lyletail anthias and a urchin, various CUC, what i am worried about is the actual cycle of the tank because it comes with fish i would prefer to do a cycle without fish for the right amount of time so there will be no problems. Do you think it would be better if i got say half of the tank water what was already in and then put new water in with it or do you think it would be ok to set everything up and get it going on the first day i get it because it would of already been cyclied at the old owners house, thank you for your time

i would mix enough saltwater to replace a 100% if you have to, just to have on hand. measure the tank water to see what the parameters are. if they are good, keep as much as possible. if they are not good, kepp no more than 50%.

either way, the tank should not cycle again if you don't put anything new in it for next 2 weeks after you make a transfer. you can move and setup the same day and put everything back in... i do it all the time.

I would also have some test kits on hand to check the water parameters. Good luck with the tank!!!
