Hi guys,

Just got our first nem, a forest fire.
The colours are gorgeous, at the moment I've put it in a glass pot to separate it from the other corals.

It seems to have turned itself around in the glass pot last night, however, it doesn't appear the foot is stuck to the glass yet. It pretty much looks like a blob at the moment for the most part overall.
Do I need to pick it up and try and place it foot down or should I just leave it alone and it'll sort itself out and get itself upright eventually ?

Thanks :)

if you just placed it in the tank give it 2-3 days. day 1 is very stressful for a move for them.

I overpaniced when i got my new RBTA someone told me to wait it out a few days. 3 days later it comes out of the cave and is now full on display in the center of my tank.

Looks like it still hasn't found it's comfortable spot yet.
Here's a pic, looking shocking right now.

I did pick it up briefly this morning to try and reposition on it's foot, it barely stayed there before rolling over and moving around some more.

Saw what looked like a brown blob of poop in there so I pulled that out, there's also a bit of goop or something in the pot too which looks orangish. (Do I have to manually clean this out of the pot if it stays in there or will it look after itself once it's settled?)
Still always watching it move though, even a sloth moves faster LOL

Here's some pics from this morning/yesterday.

i would take it out of that pot, if its not too late already. It would not get much fow in that jar, and probably not much light either. Certainly you have to stop touching it. It will not attach if its not happy, so waiting for it to attach in that glass jar seems to be killing it.

Really?
I've seen nems in pots elsewhere. Do they need a bunch of flow? Maybe I can try placing the pot in front of the powerhead a bit? Not so it's getting crazy flow but maybe enough to help it settle?

Was hoping not to let it loose in the tank to go and kill my other corals.

Okay, I took it out of the pot and put it on the sandbend. Had to relocate my elegance, hopefully they're both okay. Will need to monitor and hope to hell it doesn't kill off my other corals.

Thanks guys.
Already seems a bit happier on the sandbed, although it's still laying down and still mainly a blob, so still waiting to see if it'll come good.. I've watched it puff itself up and try and move its foot around a bit.

Can these things get themselves up if they're on their side ?

If it isnt attaching to anything, more flow isnt going to very helpful. Directly on the sand is no good. Set it on a rock in a low flow area so it doesnt get blown around.

New tank?

Nems can be pains in the butt. I always liked to acclimate and place in the general area I hope the seat. Then I try to let it do its thing and not mess with it outside of an emergency. I always like to start with them and let it get established before ever adding coral. That's just me however. I hope it comes back as healthy as can be! Good luck

Agree, turn off flow for 10 mins or so and place on a rock for the Nem to plant its foot in a crevice.

And yea new tank? And type of lighting and flow?

Thanks for all the replies.
Looks like I'll have to move it... again.
On the sandbed it looks like it's just moved itself around in a circle or something but not actually gone anywhere over night.

I'll try turning off the flow for a bit and see if I can get it to attach some rock somewhere.

Tank has been up for 8 months and has a heap of other coral in it already, hence trying to just put it in a pot.
Running a Hydra 32 and a single Nero 3 (ramped down as only a 70g tank).

I’d get a few rocks (rubble) and set the Nem on those on the sandbed. That way it will attach and hopefully get happier. Also they like holes in rock work so if there’s anything like that in your scape I’d try to put it there. Make sure when you move it you wear a latex glove both to avoid it sting you and to not get hand oils and other stuff on it. For Nems, the expression that I always think of is that they can dish it out but not take it lol. Good luck and hope this helps.

Does the Nero 3 produce alot of flow in a tank that size? I've got the Nero 5 for my 42gal. But to be fair at 100% it cleans the rocks from the back wall lol. Please update on the nem as it progresses

Thanks for the suggestion gaki, for now I've just had to put it on the main rockwork and hope for the best as I don't have any other rockwork at the moment. I've put it with a bit of shelter from direct flow for now . Really hoping it comes good but it doesn't look great right now :(

The Nero 3 is more than fine for the tank (by 70 gal, I was referring to total system, sorry. Display is all of about 47ish).
I think I run it around 40-50% max and everything seems to sway quite happily.

Well an update this afternoon after getting home from work.
Looks like the body is covered in some sort of mucus, there seems to be a lot of darker tentacle looking muck stuff now and very few bright coloured tentacles.
Is there any hope for the poor guy ?? I'm just going to leave it alone for another day or two for now in the hope it settles in.

You can see even a tentacle seems to have dropped off onto the sand...

It looks like it planted itself? I've read of them shedding tentacles before. If it appears to deteriorate remove it fast but if it's holding onto the rock just give it time and watch closely IMO
