First pictures with my new macro lens

I was not very good with the other lens so go easy... but constructive feedback is appreciated.

Lens/Camera specs?

It is canon T1i with 100mm macro lens.

They look a little blurry/out of focus. Are you doing these free-hand? Does the lens/camera have IS? Manual or Auto Focus?

Using a porthole or anything to take these pictures?

Are you using a tripod and a remote?

I used a top down box for most of them. Lens has both auto and manual focus I tried taking pictures each way.

I dont have a remote(which I found i need I kept shaking it with the button did not seem to have as big an impact with my other lens). I do have a tripod, but unfortunately I need a higher one or soemthing I kept having an issue taking pictures from the top down I could not get over the coral enough.

Makes sense then why the pics seem a tad on the blurry side. To try and get around not having a remote you could always set the timer. The thing I always notice is when pushing in the button to snap a photo, you automatically cause some sort of shake to the camera.

You will definitely want to get a nice sized tripod as well down the road. I am currently on the hunt for one myself.

The main thing is to keep taking pictures. As they always say, practice makes perfect!

Need to take with a tripod. If you have the same lens as I it has an ultrasonic focus so it will pick a nice sharp point. Try a few with the tripod straight on to the glass

100mm Macro, when taking Macro shots, has a VERY NARROW field of focus. Your exposure looks to be spot on! Focus definitely needs some work. Try to brace the camera, along the rim of the tank, or the light fixture or canopy, to keep the camera perfectly still. Also, make sure your top down box is as clean as possible, for better clarity.
