First reef tank

Hello all! Im new to reefing and looking for advice and or answers.
Ive had my tank up and running for about 5-6 weeks now and things seem to be doing ok so far. I know the names of most the coral except the one to the left of the zania on the flat frag. Just curious on suggestions for where they should be in the tank as well? They are not glued and i can move them. Also interested on how to get the frags off the plugs if its possible.

Hard to tell by the angle of the pic, but looks like a rhodactis muchroom next to the xenia. They do well at the bottom, and up to the middle. You can get info on what corals like which conditions at liveaquaria.com, they list all that stuff on every thing they sell, and they sell everything

Corals will eventually grow over the plug, making it unnoticeable, in theory. You can usually break/cut the post off the plug base with a pair of cutting pliers, but be careful not to handle the coral itself, and its best to wear gloves as to not endanger the coral or yourself. Use gel super glue to attach the plug to the rock, yes it works underwater, and its reef safe

Also, you appear to have some green hair algae sprouting up, mexican turbo snails will help there

They are actually on their way today... i have 5 more snails, 5 more crab, 2 peppermint shrimp and a sand gobie coming today

Just some advise from someone who's spent MONTHS eradicating the leftover xenia from my tank.......Watch it closely or it will take over your entire tank.
It covered my rocks, including acros and everything else.

Welcome to R2R! Best of luck to you. Definitely a hairy Rhodactis mushroom.
Depending on how the frag is attached to th plug, you can use a razor and carefully scrape the coral away from the plug and affix with glue or putty elsewhere. Sometimes you can use a screwdriver or scraper to detach the coral frag from the plug if it’s on a small piece of live rock.

Is there a way i can, i guess motivate it, to grow only in one area? Say like all up the back wall? I think it would look cool to have the back wall pulsating

Thanks! Yea i have about 10-12 snails, 2 peppermint shrimp, 6+ hermits, a fire shrimp and i have a starfish acclimating as we speak... and a sand sifting gobie coming Tues

Glue the frag plug to the back wall if that’s the look you’re going for.

Don't glue things to the glass.

Either put the plug on a rock and lean the rock against the back glass, or get a magnetic frag rack and put that on the back glass. Eventually it may start to climb the glass. I've never done it, but I suspect it will have better luck once you have a good coating of coraline on the glass.
