i got a 20 gallon for free and was going to covert it to a fuge. the best location for it will be beside my exsisting sump. this fuge will primarily be for phosphate and nitrate control, establishing pods and maintaining stable ph readings. i was told by my lfs that all i needed was liverock and chaeto. no need for a sand bed. can someone tell me what they think.

thanks for your reply. i guess i was confused on the sand bed thing because most of the refugiums i searched on the internet had all the above in them. i will go with the chaeto. thanks again i can get a little carried away and drift off of the "keep it simple" method.

And you can add sand, live rock, and various caulperas and other macros as well. And sand/rocks is helpful for those types of macros that have hold fasts.

But as you stated to Kiss it just add chaeto and let the chaeto tumble around.

i have sand, live rock rubbles, chaetos and pods in mine... i put some snails in there without know about it and now, i've got hundreds of baby snails in the refugium... no more buying snails... whohooo...
