I think im ready for some life in my tank.

I was able to get a Rx for Chloroquine phosphate Should I use that with a 30day QT or just go with the Transfer method? I love the faster method, (id like to get this tank stocked with as much as i can for xmas

Also What do you recommend on the Cheato, and inverts

The store im thinking about going to ive seen some apatsia in there coral tanks in the past what would you do?

the corals are good with just a dip right? not sure ill be picking any of those up yet unless I can pick up a Radion for a steal while im there

CP is a very good med for QT. It covers a wide range of diseases and parasites. If your able to get that, then I'd suggest taking advantage of it. Doing this quickly is never a good idea. Take your time with QT (whether it's corals or fish) and you'll have a much better time of it. Corals need to be left in a fishless environment for 76 days to be sure ick and other parasites don't travel into the display on them. It also gives you a chance to observe for other pests. A coral dip will get rid of coral pests, but not ick or velvet ect.

Unfortunately aptasia is very hard to control and get rid of. We have it at my store as well. We use lasers, Aptasia X and peppermint shrimp to try to control it. I dont really have any solid advice about that except don't purchase from those tanks. Maybe if you had a small army of peppermint shrimp in your coral QT, it would keep the aptasia at bay, but I can't make promises about that at all.

Ok thanks for the reply what about the tank transfer method for the corals?

Ok thanks for the reply what about the tank transfer method for the corals?

It wont work. TTM works for fish because ick can only because it can stay on the fish for a short amount of time ( a couple days) then drop off. Each time you transfer the fish to a new QT, you leave the parasites that dropped off behind. With corals, it's encysted on a hard surface and can take considerably longer to break open again. The only option is to leave them in a fishless QT for 76 days to be totally sure. You could, of course, go for a shorter amount of time, but that's a risk... one that I can't advise you to take. But that's your choice of course :)

Ok thanks, Trying to decide how many more tanks im going to go pick up at the petco $ sale

Whats the best tank temp for a mixed reef?

Ok thanks, I would like to do it fast but its gotta be Disease free, With all the work ive been putting in it to get this far

I'm with ya there. We all want fast, but slow is the way to go. Nothing good ever happens fast in this hobby.

HOw many fish can I get in a 40gl QT GOing to treat with CP first for 10+ days and then Prazipro I guess.
I have a 240Gl Long Was wanting to start off with 5-7 Blue green chromis and 3or5 Yellow tangs, Could I get a goby in there too? is it about a gallon an inch?

Just spent $180 on 7g of CP

You could get away with the chromis. But Putting that many yellow tangs together in a 40 could spell problems.... both in bioload and aggression. Think hard about the group of tangs before doing it, and if it's your first time QTing then save them for after you've gotten some practice in first.

Yeah I was reading, I guess Im going to get just one of each kind of tang.
Keep in mind that you should try to add fish from least aggressive to most aggressive. Since tangs are both large and aggressive you should try to add them at the same time and make them some of your last additions.

Good luck!

Agree on all fronts except my aiptasia eating filefish have always farmed mine out. I just move him from tank to tank as needed

Lucky Duck! I've had every single person who bought one from me either return it because it ate a welso or other favored coral OR it didn't eat any aptasia at all.... mostly those in the second category kept them, but told me about it later. I always give the standard warning of "maybe he will, maybe he won't"

Honestly 3/5 of those I've purchased have eaten aiptasia AND monanos of memory serves.

I don't keep expensive coral that I care much about so that's less of a concern with me. Sometimes it takes them awhile to start digging in, often 1-3 months before all of a sudden they begin to vanish en masse.

Admittedly though I've used them for consuming majanos more than aiptasia but my most recent purchase was solely for aiptasia and he went to town. Some of them were MASSIVE and they were EVERYWHERE - literally 30-50

If your using CP for quarantine then you should be fine. Just keep an eye on ammonia with that many fish in the tank.

Love the selection!

I do have a concern with the Green Mandarin. They need to be fed a large amount of live food constantly throughout the day. In a new aquarium without an established copepod population it could be very difficult to keep alive. You will most likely need to use a specialized feeder for him, like the one PaulB designed.

Everything is going well , so far except one chromis looks like he may have a battle scar or something, looks pink and tender scales possibly look lifted or something .

Also on the mandrine , he's pretty much been sitting back in the corner since I got him, not eating either
