Ok friends need help. First time i have had a salt tank. Its 75 Gallons. i have read so much I'm over loaded. All i want to know is how much salt should i put on the water to mix. Can someone just break it down to me in simple terms please. Greatfull
Its approximately one cup per gallon but always verify with a reliable salt tester such as a Refractometer. I generally mix 3/4 cup per gallon and test accordingly as its easier to add salt than to remove to reach specific gravity which is 1.024-1.025

Welcome to R2R! As mentioned already, start with the directions on the packaging. I've never seen salt mix that doesn't give a 'ballpark' mixing ratio but err toward the low side so that you can add salt as needed to bring it up to the correct salinity (specific gravity of 1.025-1.026 or 34-35 ppt is a common recommendation). You will need a way to measure the salinity: a hydrometer, refractometer or digital salinity tester. Try to not use a 'swing arm' style hydrometer as it can be very hard to get accurate measurements with them. Also be sure the unit, no matter which type, is rated for marine use.

I've had a saltwater tank for many years and have always had a mixing tank. I have a 40 gallon RO/DI tank of water and a 50 gallon tank that has the saltwater mix in it. I keep the water in the saltater tank heated and always being mixed. Might be a something to consider. Attached a picture of the set up and my RO/DI Filter system.

Hello and Welcome to R2R! I use instant ocean reef salt and I mix it 2 cups to 4 gallons of RO water. I Then check the salinity to see if I need more salt or water at that point. I do the mixing in a 40+ gallon container which allows the adjustment as I mix it up to 40 gallons at a time

Welcome to R2R and the salty world. A refractometer will help. As Vetteguy says, you can add more to get to the level but you can’t take the salt out if reading is too high. Add more ro water if too high. Lots of knowledgeable and helpful people here who will support and advise you when needed.
