Hello,

I am about to start venturing into my first ever saltwater aquarium. I just purchased a 27 gallon cube tank for a steal and looking to get some information for experienced hobbyists.

Main information I'm looking for is what are the minimum required accessories that I will need to get started? Since it's my first I am not going to spend an arm and a leg for every possible thing I can get to put in the aquarium.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

What are your goals for the aquarium? What fish? Do you want corals, etc? The reason I ask this, if you're going to want clams/SPS in the future, no sense in buying cheap lights and powerheads.

But to start, you need some baserock(live isn't necessary) look at marcorocks.com, reefrocks, net, or BRS.com, IMO. get at least 1 pound per gallon of water that way you can play with it. Next you need a few powerheads, like I said depends on what you want. If you're doing mostly fish and softies, just get a few hydor koralia 500s or so, if you're gonna do SPS, get a ecotech. Next you need lights, REALLY depends on your future of the tank. Then a protein skimmer rated for your tank. A must is a RODI unit and refractometer. heater and thermometer. salt, and a basic param testing kit.

I'm prob missing something, but that will start ya off;)
