I've had my 30g setup coming up on a year now so I decided to setup my first sump to clean up the clutter in the display. Figured no better time than now since I have a spare 10g just sitting in the basement. Question I can't seem to find any solutions for is once I have everything plumbed and the sump running is it common to leave the HOB filter running or even necessary? Do plan to toss some uncycled dry and a sponge(QT tank) into the sump. Pardon the ignorance but don't have much knowledge in the way of sumps. Hate to pull the HOB toss the media in sump and it causes the tank to crash. Which in my own line of thinking it shouldn't because the media still holds all the beneficial bacteria.

Probably ok. Although I’m a better safe than sorry kinda reefer. I would leave the HOB for a couple weeks and let the new dry rock get nice and seeded with bacteria. Or run the HOB in sump!

Never once thought about that. I'm with you there rather be safe than sorry. Awesome! Only a 10g sump but still plenty of room to stuff that in there for a few weeks.
