Welcome Abarge, and lurk to your hearts' content, but start to show some pics - basement sumps are not for the timid.... smile

Ill have pictures of everything as soon as I start cutting! Convinced my wife that I needed to put holes in walls!.
Hello @Abarge16 and welcome to R2R!! Glad you joined us!! Can you tell us about some of your plans for your tank?
So far my plans are a mixed reef no sps. Im trying not to get too comfortable with the 75 because I have about 20 more inches of space to fill up and I can go out to 3ft wide in the area. But I plan on making an entire sump room in the basement!

Welcome, I put my sump in the basement as well.
Good luck
Sump in the basement scares me …
That’s a lot of head pressure that has to drain somewhere in the event of power outage .
Is a 40g enough volume to account for that much water falling before the siphon is lost ?

When return pump power is off, only a fraction of the water goes back to sump.
In my 180g with 40g sump, this amounts to only 10g.
So, my 40g sump runs with 20g of water (half) and when the power is off, it rises to 3/4 or 30g and there’s still 10g to spare.

This will be my first set up 75g display with 40b sump in the basement. Taking it slow and doing lots of research! Ill be lurking.

Welcome! Glad you joined.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:
