First tank- My Nano Reef Build

So RFAs are pretty well known for not moving. When mine first went in my tank it stayed in the same place for a week, moved on top of mushroom corals, then I manually removed him from the rock. Then 2 days later he did it again... manual removal again. Then I moved him far away on to what I thought was a good spot. Hasn't moved in 2 months.

That's good to know, BTA's sound like pains just because of their constant movement. Just because I don't know very much about corals, pretty much all other corals will stay put, correct? It's just the anenome's that move.

Forget that scolymia, just looked it up on WWC and I'd be spending more on that coral than I did on my tank! Saltwater is expensive...

Yeah... scolys are REALLY expensive. Corals will not move

Man, watching videos about scolys just makes me want them even more... Even if it isn't for scolys only, are there any times that places like WWC have coral sales just if I was looking to get some nicer-looking corals for less?

Last question on corals for the time being (i hope, I keep telling myself that but then something else comes up...) are there any good corals that will spread, and in some way cover the rock they started on, or are those corals not that good of an idea.

There are green star polyp, clove polyps I believe they are called and xenia. The problem with them is that they are all extremely invasive. Soon I will be getting a gsp frag and have it cover the black panel that separates the sump from the DT

What about favites? They seem like they spread over time but maybe slower?

Gonna be honest I dont know lol. I assume they will but I'd imagine it would be super slow for a whole rock

if you're looking for easy corals that clowns will host check out soft leather corals like kenya trees and others. Clowns will also host duncans and frogspawn, LPS corals that are easier than BTAs and are better for small tanks.

Corals usually hate when clowns host unless their massive or a leather coral I've noticed

if you're looking for easy corals that clowns will host check out soft leather corals like kenya trees and others. Clowns will also host duncans and frogspawn, LPS corals that are easier than BTAs and are better for small tanks.

I am looking for a coral that I can put some current on and have it waving around a bit. I was originally going to go for a torch but are duncans or frogspawns easier?

+1 with Joshua2598. I had a three head duncan that both my clowns tried to host and both "loved" one head to death. Luckily both moved to my torch and are doing ok. The duncan is semi-ok and is currently growing new heads. Big heads up. Don't rush with corals. I'm being a hypocrite here since I rushed, but from personal experience just take it slow. Go check my build and look at how fast I rushed my corals. I'm currently dealing with calcium drops right now. If you want something that is wavy and such, look for a galaxea coral. The only problem is that, Galaxea corals from my researching are very aggresive and would kill other coral near it. Torch corals are also very aggressive towards other corals LPS/SPS. You can try have a euphylia garden if you're after a waving effect. With euphylia's torch can't touch any other corals except other torches. Hammers and frogspawns can be ok with each other. Your experience may vary though. I hope you enjoy reefing as much as I do and good luck.

My frogspawn is really flowy and beautiful. I have it at the bottom of my tank with I'd say a bit less than medium flow and its thriving. I planned to move it back up the rock but its thriving there so why move it

Thanks for all the helpful information. I may still try to go for a torch and just place it in a way where it will have space to grow while at the same time not harming any other corals. I was a bit confused on your explanation of euphylia and what it is allowed to touch. Would you mind explaining that again?

I just started and difnt know a lot about corals. The BRS 52 weeks of reefing really helped me. And they’re three videos on corals helped me a lot with understanding the different troupes and species.

So should I just leave torch off the list for possible corals, or is there still some way that I can make a torch work in the tank? I haven't seen many hammers or frogspawns so I can't really compare anything but the torches at the coral shop near me looked really nice... Maybe if I find a way to isolate the torch?

You can put him high on a pedestal. They are also harder to care for than other euphyllia
