Hi everyone

been on here a few months now, more digesting all of the great advice and info than contributing.

so this is my/my sons first marine tank, I always wanted one but back in the 90’s and naughties, it always seemed to be cloaked in mystery and really expensive. As such I took the tropical route for decades. Anyway……. Finally took the plunge and have to say I’m loving it.

We are about 4 months in now, the tank is a fluval evo, I have modded it quite heavily, with masses more bio media, removal of the internal pump in favour of a 850l/min external can filter. It was set up with a deep live sand bed and live rock.

We fully cycled (according to water test results) just inside a week but held off anything more than snails for about 4 weeks. Then shrimps peppermint and cleaner and some awesome metallic blue leg hermits.

After that we were struck with the dreaded diatoms, but a 10 day blackout and water change increase nipped that in the bud.

Finally after all these months, we finally stocked our first fish, I had been coveting a pair of platinum clowns that had been in the LFS for ages. Luck was on my side because finally after 10 consecutive weeks of perfect water tests they were still there.

And now they live with us.

i look forward to more conversations on the forum.

cheers all

James

Welcome .
glad you switched to the salty side .
the 90’s is when I got in and I can say …
Selection wasn’t as plentiful , but prices were great .
Large colonies of corals for 1/2 of what a small frag goes for now .

That aquascape is a work of art! It follows the rules of thirds, asymmetrically balanced, interesting to the eye, and has depth!

Phenomenal job!

Thanks all, spent a few days scaping the rock out of the tank before we set up. Put it together dry, leave it on the fire place to look at etc etc until I got what I wanted.
